英語ワンポイントレッスン　－　コンクリート

コンクリート　（ Concrete ）は日本語にもなり、建物を建てる時のコンクリートを印象する方も多いかと思います。　もちろんその意味もありますが、英語では、”　具体的な　” と言う意味もあります。　理屈を考えれば納得のいく言葉かと思います。

以前、女性情報番組、シティーライン　CityLine のファミリーデー特集で女性と男性の人間関係、男性と上手に付き合う方法を話してました。

女性は抽象的で、　”愛が欲しい”、”思いやりの言葉をかけて”　”もう少し気遣って”　等、目に見えない物を求めます。 男性はそう言った抽象的な言葉には鈍く、分かりません。 男性は　Concrete Word が必要だと言ってました。　例えば、”花が欲しい”、　”食べた後の食器を洗ってほしい”、”子育てを手伝って”

２０年結婚していた夫婦、奥さんはいつも家事の手伝いをしてくれないと不満に思ってましたが、ある日、”　洗い物を手伝ってほしい”と具体的にお願いしたら、ご主人は何の文句なく手伝うようになり、夫婦円満となったそうです。

よく、男性曰く、　”言ってくれればするのに” と言うことがあります。　女性としては言わなくても気づいて欲しいと思うでしょうが、男性はそういう生き物ですから期待せず、不満に思うより、して欲しいことは　 Concrete word でお願いしましょう。

よく、元上司で今は仕事場の仲間である人から彼女の彼氏さんの不満を聞きます。　いつも、じれったくなるので、”　それ、彼氏さんに聞いた？　言った？　”　と私はアドバイスします。　そして、ふとこの番組の事を思い出し、彼女にも教えてあげました。

日本では　”腹芸”が美徳とされているので、西洋の男性よりはマシかと思います。　腹芸をして相手を思いやる事はいい事だと思います。　ただ、腹芸を他の人に期待して自分の時間や気持ちを無駄にするのはどうでしょうか？ 人生短く、一回しかないのなら、気持ちよく生きたいと思いませんか？
